YET ANOTHER SERIES WIN

3 HR’s by, Sal Fasano, Derek Jeter, and Nick Green, got the Yankees off to a fantastic 6-0 start by the 4th inning. Hayden Penn, the Orioles starter, lasted 3+ innings(7 er, 10,hits) before being replaced by Russ Ortiz.

Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi were again both missing, due to an upset stomach and a sore wrist, respectively. Nick Green and Aaron Guiel, both made a very good account of themselves.

Another RBI by Jeter in the 4th with no-body out, in the 4th, increased the lead to 7-0. Meanwhile Jaret Wright was pitching his socks off. Now whilst I’m a big opponent of Wright this season, he was amazing today.

In the 5th, Ramon Hernandez belted a solo home run to reduce the lead to 7-1. It was a blemish on an otherwise great outing by Wright.

After Damon walked, and Cabrera doubled ion the 6th, Jeter flied to right to score Damon and make the score 8-1. Bobby Abreu singled to score Cabrera and further increase the score to 9-1.

Wrights performance, showed glimpses of how he can pitch and aid the much maligned Yankee rotation. Now that Mariano Rivera is sidelined with an arm injury, it’s now imperative that the starters go deeper into games with both Proctor and Farnsworth not 100% reliable.

In the 7th, Wright walked both Tejada and Millar. Joe Torre came to the mound and called for Ron Villone. Unfortunately, Villone hadn’t got his stuff with him at all today. In successive pitches he gave up a fly-out then, Hernandez’s 2nd homer of the game to make the score 9-4. He then proceeded to hit Brendan Fahy and allowing a single to Roberts. Torre had seen enough and called for Brian Bruney, who pitched magnificently.

In the 9th, Scott Proctor was called upon to hold the game. After giving up a lead off double, he successfully retired the side to give the Bombers a 9-4 victory.

It wont be long now till the Yankees reach the post-season, and try and maintain the form they have been in of late and reach the World Series.

AT LAST.

Cole Hamills pitched a very good game. He is the second good rookie we have come across this year, (1st being Sox, David Pauley) Both kids have bright futures ahead. Hamills gave us a hard time tonight and deserved better, but thankfully he didn’t and we won.

Wrong, again could’t give us more than 5 innings. Whats new there. The tired bullpen in Villone, Proctor, Farnsworth and Mo, did the polygrip act to get Jaret Wrong back to an even .500 at 4-4. It’s only the second shutout of the Phillies this season. The 1st was the Nationals earlier this month.

Wnkveyyw1All the bats played their part, heck, even Wrong ‘pitched’ in with a deep fly for an RBI. Johnny Damon went 3-3. What a signing that was. He’s proving his worth to us now.

Maybe the Yankees are starting to make their late season surge earlier than the normal July 4th (old timers day) usual signal. Is it the sight of all the former greats that stir their loins, and gets their backsides in gear or is it just a regular coincidence. Eitherway the Phillies are a good team, not a brilliant one, but a definate bananna skin. So to come back from brotherly love city with a series win, especially the way we have been playing lately is a big plus.

Anyhow the big match tomorrow in the World Cup, without a shadow of a doubt, is U.S.A. Vs Ghana. I’m doing a live blog on the match from 10am over on my other site "Maddog’s World Cup Reports" If you can drop in and leave a comment.

DEAR GOD, HE DID NOT DESERVE THAT…

Jh5urcsu1Wang was pitching an absolute blinder, and retired all but 1 on groundouts. A classic pitchers duel with Wang just after getting tapped for a run on a single, woeful attempt to catch him stealing by Jorge, then a single to Melky in left, followed by an offline throw to home. Silly mistakes cost a run and the way things are going today 1 may be enough. No more damage done in the 5th so the bats have to come out now and Wang, fingers crossed, can go deep into the game coz our pen is F**K*D….

Nice by Captain clutch. The wild pitch which moved him to 2nd was a big mistake by O’Connor. Nice effort by A-Rod to get Jeter home to tie the score, but boy does Guillen have a gun or what for an arm. All tied now, everything to play for. This inning will be huge for Chien-Ming Wang.

Oh boy!!!!!! a 6 pitch inning for him, and only 72 pitches going into the 7th. More offence please boys..

Nice start in the 8th, with Melky walking. New pitcher for the Nats in Gary Majewski. Jeter does not look happy at all. Terrible strikeout, looked like me in softball. His hand is still bothering him me thinks. Now Giambi strikes out. Impressive stuff by Majewski. A-Rod in the spotlight now, and a huge RBI double by him, scores Cabrerra and puts the Yankees 2-1 up. Nice one Alex. It’s on Wang’s shoulders now to complete 6 outs, as neither Mo or Proctor are available today..

Oh Lord help me….. Wang walks Harris, and Jaret Wrong is warming up in the pen.. A good sac bunt by Bird moves Harris to 3rd. With 2 outs Wang walks Soriano. Jose Vidro, hits Wangs 96th pitch deep to left, but Melky makes another spectacular catch to end the inning.

So to the bottom of the 9th and Wang is going for a complete game. Proctor and Myers are warming up, just in case.

Oh good Jaysus… Thats all i can say. I really feel for him. He did not deserve that and anyone who criticises him does not know Baseball. I hope this does not destroy his confidence. Thats tragical… Chien-Ming Wang, You pitched your stones off mate. Hard luck dude.

MOOSE HUNTING SEASON

So the Moose is human afterall. Touched up today and didn’t really get that much help at all, from a lacklustre and overworked pen. Octavio Dotel is due back in 2 weeks. I bet ya, should this mini-slump materialize into a panic alert this week, do not be surprised to see him rushing back.

I know the Giants are not a trading team, but an offer ‘apparently’ has been made for Sheffield, to play right in place of Moises Alou and they also want Phillip Hughes in a 3 team trade, that includes the Oakland A’s with Bonds walking across the Bay to DH. We in turn get Jason Schmidt. I’m sure the deal is a lot more complex than that, as I have said before, I do not know how these things work.

Barry Zito is still the favorite to come to New York. Could they be talking this weekend??????

Jeter must be pretty sore to DH yet again. Andy Phillips is the odd man out in this scenario as Jason Giambi continues to see more 1st base action. Miguel Cairo, while no Jeter, is a worthy understudy. He gives the phrase "Jack of all trades" a new meaning.

What about young Kevin Thompson. His 1st major league home run, didn’t "just get out", It left with a passport and suncream. It landed in San Juan, Puerto Rico. What a blast. We certainly have some decent players in the farm system. Are they now legitimate trade fodder for the Cash Man…??????

Anyway enough of that and always forever looking to tomorrow. It may seem like I’m wishing my life away, but in my eyes, unless you win 162 regular season games and sweep to the world series crown, (which will never happen), Things can only get better. Thats the beauty of sport..

Don’t forget to drop by to my other blog site Maddog World Cup Reports, and say hi, or this is a load of !@#$% …….

YIPPEE WERE BACK

2nd pitch to Giambi, and he belts it YARD…. SEE YA…..3 run homer

6-4 Oakland, 1 out, bottom of 7th… YEEE HAW……

Oh Robinson Crusoe, you are the man, 6-5, 2 out, here’s Bernie.

Ah well. Big K for Bernie, 2 innings left..

Ah ballbag…. That as they say is that.. another frustrating loss..

Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooose tomorrow
